The USPS represents almost 100 years of boating heritage. Its emphases on boating safety along with seamanship and boating skills training for both members and non-members and its ability to accomplish this while having a good time is considered outstanding in the recreational boating community. The Santa Barbara Squadron is proud to have shared in this heritage for over 60 years. Membership is not required for admission to many of our educational and social activities; however membership would allow you to fully continue enjoying the camaraderie of Squadron boating friends while learning new skills and building lifelong memories. Remember, boating is fun, we show you how! For information on membership go to members.
With the recent Change of Watch, our squadron elected a new bridge. I and my fellow Bridge Officers thank you for giving us this opportunity to serve our squadron.
The 2009-10 Bridge hopes to continue the excellent course established. To me, our squadron is a great conduit for the appreciation and enjoyment of the precious marine beauty that surrounds us here in Santa Barbara. Appreciation and enjoyment will be two beacons I hope to steer by throughout the year. To that end we will continue our series of Bridge Meeting speakers whose topics deepen and enhance our appreciation and whet our appetite for boating. We will publicize these speakers ahead of time and in detail to encourage your participation. Please join us for these events.
I invite everyone to review this year’s impressive and ambitious calendar of social and boating activities, including a proposed circumnavigation of the Channel Islands. Please consider especially participating in an event or two that you have not joined in recent years.
Being knowledgeable and well prepared helps to ensure that boating is enjoyable. Your board has put together a wide-ranging slate of courses. We hope to place an added emphasis on increasing the local knowledge contained in these courses, on sharing our collective local experience and history, on making each of them as relevant and useful to Santa Barbara boaters as possible. This effort can go far beyond the work of the instructors themselves and include each and every one of us. We all have experiences and knowledge of value to others. I encourage you to share yours. Please consider taking a course or helping an instructor by addressing a class or offering some of your boating “wisdom” for their use.
We welcome new members. The benefits of membership go beyond education, boating fun and a feeling of "giving back " to the boating community by actively promoting boating safety. See Member Benefits for more information. I look forward to sharing a fun, memorable and successful year with you.
